Moss Learning

For parents

How Moss Learning works

Moss Learning is a calm reading companion that listens to your child read aloud and coaches the read in the moment. Here is what happens during a reading turn — and what we do to keep it safe.

01

The reading turn

A single word appears, large and calm. Your child reads it aloud. When the word is read, one small part of a scene comes to life — one earned reveal at a time. There are no timers, no buzzers, and no race. Reading the word is the reward.

02

What “listening” means

Moss listens only while your child is reading a word — the microphone is on during the reading turn and off the rest of the time. Your child’s voice is used only to check the read — never for ads, never sold.

Before a read, the microphone is off.

03

Coached success is success

If your child needs a nudge and then reads the word, that counts. Effort that gets there is celebrated, never punished — and the coaching is the same every time, so a read is never graded on a whim.

What parents see

Parents get a calm, honest view of real practice — never a fabricated number. Five plain tiles show:

  • Current levelthe phonics step your child is practicing now
  • Words this weekhow much they’ve read — on their own or with a little help
  • Days practiceda simple count of days with reading, never a streak to protect
  • Coached winswords that took some working out — and got there
  • Scenes & friendsthe parts of the world their reading has brought to life

Moss Learning supports reading practice and confidence. It is not a diagnostic tool, dyslexia screener, speech-therapy service, medical product, or replacement for a teacher or reading specialist.

05

A planned path, not a random one

Children learn to read by learning how sounds map to letters, in a deliberate order. Moss follows a systematic phonics progression — placing your child at the right starting point and moving one step at a time, so each new word builds on the last.
