How Moss Learning works

Moss Learning is a calm reading companion that listens to your child read aloud and coaches the read in the moment. Here is what that means — and what we do to keep it safe.

Your child's privacy

Moss Learning never stores your child's recordings. When your child reads, the audio is sent to our speech-scoring provider to measure how the words were pronounced — and it is not kept by Moss Learning. We keep only the reading results (the word, the outcome, and the time), never the voice itself. And Moss Learning never trains AI on your child's voice.

Before a read, the microphone is off.

It turns on only while your child is reading.

The moment the read ends, the audio is gone — never stored.

Real read-aloud assessment

Moss Learning listens to how your child actually reads — not taps, not multiple choice. If your child needs a nudge and then reads the word, that coached success counts as success: effort is celebrated, never punished. And the feedback is deterministic — the same read earns the same coaching every time. Moss Learning does not improvise grades or invent progress; every number a parent sees comes from a real read.

Built on the Science of Reading

Children learn to read by learning how sounds map to letters, in a deliberate order — short vowels first, then blends and digraphs, then longer patterns. Moss Learning follows a systematic phonics progression: it places your child at the right starting point and moves forward one step at a time, so each new word builds on the last. Nothing is random; the path is planned.

Why Moss

Moss is a warm, patient companion — a golden puppy who listens and encourages, and never rushes or scolds. Moss Learning is built with restraint over hype: soft light, gentle voice, no flashing rewards or loud streaks. It is designed especially for anxious readers — the children for whom reading has started to feel hard — so that showing up and trying is always the win.
