How Moss Learning works
Moss Learning is a calm reading companion that listens to your child read aloud and coaches the read in the moment. Here is what happens during a reading turn — and what we do to keep it safe.
The reading turn
A single word appears, large and calm. Your child reads it aloud. When the word is read, one small part of a scene comes to life — one earned reveal at a time. There are no timers, no buzzers, and no race. Reading the word is the reward.
What “listening” means
Moss listens only while your child is reading a word — the microphone is on during the reading turn and off the rest of the time. Your child’s voice is used only to check the read — never for ads, never sold.
Before a read, the microphone is off.
It turns on only while your child is reading.
The moment the read ends, the audio is gone — never stored.

Coached success is success
If your child needs a nudge and then reads the word, that counts. Effort that gets there is celebrated, never punished — and the coaching is the same every time, so a read is never graded on a whim.

What parents see
Parents get a calm, honest view of real practice — never a fabricated number. For each child, three plain sentences:
- What they can read on their own — the words your child has read independently
- What they can read with a little support — the words Moss is helping them get
- What Moss is working on next — the sound family and the words coming up
Under those, this week in plain terms: words read, days read on, and any coached wins — words that took some working out and got there. Never a streak to protect. When the microphone couldn't hear clearly, it says so — it's never counted as a miss.
Moss Learning supports reading practice and confidence. It is not a diagnostic tool, dyslexia screener, speech-therapy service, medical product, or replacement for a teacher or reading specialist.
A planned path, not a random one
Children learn to read by learning how sounds map to letters, in a deliberate order. Moss follows a systematic phonics progression — placing your child at the right starting point and moving one step at a time, so each new word builds on the last.
