An honest kids' reading app — six questions to ask any of them
Most of what goes wrong with a children's subscription goes wrong at the edges: the cancel button, the renewal, the paywall halfway through, the microphone nobody explained. Here are the six questions we think every parent should ask — and our own answers, as they stand today, with nothing rounded up.
1.Can I cancel inside the app, in a few taps, and see it in writing?
Cancel in the app in three taps — no calls, no retention hoops. The confirmation is in writing: on the page after the last tap, and in an email from Stripe.
2.Will it tell me before it charges me again?
Your renewal date is shown on your parent page, and we email you before a renewal.
3.Are there ads, or sponsored content, anywhere a child can see?
No ads. No sponsored content. Ever.
4.When is the microphone on, and what happens to the recording?
The microphone is on only while your child reads. Your child’s voice is used only to check the read — never for ads, never sold.
5.Is there a paywall in the middle of reading or making a story?
No. One flat price — $11.99/mo or $89/yr — covers reading and stories. No credits, no per-story fees.
6.Does it actually hear my child read, or count taps?
Most reading apps assess through taps, swipes, and multiple choice — they do not listen to the child read aloud. Moss listens to your child read single words aloud; each earned word reveals one part of a calm scene.
